Lie-Nielsen's heavier, wider smoothing plane for taming wide boards and difficult figured grain. The extra mass damps vibration and the extra-thick A2 blade — cryogenically treated and hardened to Rockwell 60-62 — holds an edge far longer than conventional steel. Ductile iron body ground flat and square to .001"; manganese bronze cap; stainless steel yoke. Everything built by hand in Warren, Maine.
