C.S. Steen's Syrup Mill

Family-owned cane syrup mill on the banks of Bayou Vermilion in Abbeville, Louisiana, making 100% pure cane syrup and molasses using an open-kettle process unchanged since 1910. Charley Steen salvaged a frost-damaged sugarcane crop that year by fashioning a small mill; by 1930 the family had built a larger mill at its current Main Street location. Steen's remains Louisiana's most iconic pantry staple — nothing added, nothing extracted, no preservatives.
