American Art Clay Company (AMACO), founded in 1919 by Ted O. Philpott in Indianapolis, Indiana, is one of the longest-running ceramic art supply manufacturers in the United States. AMACO formulates and produces professional-grade glazes, underglazes, and clay bodies at its 14-acre Indianapolis facility, and manufactures the Brent series of pottery wheels from recycled materials. AMACO introduced the first lead-free ceramic glaze in 1951 and helped establish industry safety standards that are still in use today.
